Aion Assassin Leveling Guide

Updated on December 30, 2010

Assassin basics

The Assassin is a Daeva killing specialist that follows the Star of Death. After hiding itself, an Assassin quietly approaches its enemy and aims for vital spots to inflict great amounts of damage instantly. This is one of the Assassin's trademark combat skills. Some of the Daeva have criticized them for ambushing defenseless enemies or using poisoned blades. However, the Assassin is necessary in the legions for its battlefield roles of infiltration, disruption, assassination, and more.

Elysean Assassins have been known follow Vaizel, the Lord of Free Souls, while Asmodian Assassins tend to serve Triniel, the Queen of Death.

Playing an Assassin

Assassins are the dual dagger (and sword) users in Aion. This class boasts a great amount of evasion, allowing them to avoid enemy attacks. Assassins also have the ability to hide from their enemies in order to sneak up on them. Their damage is quite high, but so is the amount of damage taken (that is, when enemies are able to hit them!).

The pros of playing an Assassin in Aion are:

- Tons of damage output using skills

- The ability to hide from enemies and sneak up on them

- High evasion to make it easier to avoid enemy attacks

- The ability to use bows to pull mobs to their group

The low points are:

- When hit, Assassins take a great deal of damage

- Some mobs and players are able to see hidden characters

Roles and abilities

The Assassin is an offensive class with various acrobatic attack skills that can inflict severe damage on the enemy within a short amount of time.

While their defensive capability is relatively low, Assassins possess exceptional evasion skills. They can perform many counterattacks that can stun opponents and, in some cases, leave them open to attacks from behind.

The Assassin is sometimes used as a tank when there is not another tank present (such as a Gladiator or Templar) due to their evasion. Although not quite as efficient as the heavy armor wearers, they still do much better than classes such as the Ranger, mages, or priests.

The Assassin also retains the ability to not only hide in the shadows but in plain sight. This allows the Assassin to get the jump on their opponents and inflict massive amounts of damage before they are even noticed.

The trademark skills for Assassins are their ability use Pattern Engraving on their enemies. Once several patterns have been placed on an enemy, the Assassin can utilize various skills to remove them. Patterns contain varying degrees of damage and status debuffs, and once removed these effects are applied directly to the enemy.

The armor choices of the Assassin are very minimal; they can choose between Cloth or Leather. Cloth will not be suited well for them, as the defense is much lower than with Leather armor.

When it comes to weapons, the Assassin excels at using Daggers and Swords. While not a specialty of the Assassin, Bows can also be used. Leather is the preferred type of armor, as it does not interfere with the Assassin's ability to perform their various acrobatic attacks.

The skills the Assassins have range from just straight up attacking enemies, to having to attack them from behind. Due to the way critical attacks and damage work in Aion, the Assassin is much more suited to a grouping environment than a solo one. When grouped, Assassins will want to get behind the mobs (or players) to unleash their most deadly attacks. When solo, the Assassin is much more efficient against mobs who are not aggressive, as aggressive mobs will not attack them before they are able reposition themselves at their backs!

The Assassin is a class able to deal a lot of damage, but at the same time they also take a lot of damage when they are hit. Although they are definitely not the best class when it comes to kiting mobs, their evasion will generally take up for their low defense when doing melee attacks. This evasion also allows them to take the role of tanking when there is not another one around, although they will not be nearly as efficient as real tanks.

Assassins possess a hiding ability which can assist them when leveling up during low levels because they are able to skip many aggressive mobs while going into hide, however it may be also considered a downside. If you're playing an Assassin, chances are you're skipping many mobs along the way, therefore losing a lot of valuable experience points.

It will hit you sooner or later when you'll advance to the next area several levels too low and you'll have a lot of trouble killing mobs. To avoid those mistakes as much as possible and level up as fast as anyone else (if not even faster), I recommend following the advice of this Aion Assassin Leveling Guide. It features many, many tips and tricks about the class which are conveniently gathered into a single guide.
